Writing Magazine lands on my doormat and I savour the moment when I peel off it's plastic outer and flick through the fresh pages - letters, articles, interviews, poetry...
Just a minute, there's my name - flick back to find the page again.
Adult Fairy Tale Competition - shortlisted were...Polly Hall, Bridgwater, Somerset...that's me, that's me!!
I know I didn't win; I wasn't even Runner-up, BUT I was SHORTLISTED. That means a lot to a writer. It's almost like jumping a few hurdles and knowing that you were in the final running for the big prize.
In a trade filled with rejections, uncertainties, speculation and changing trends, it's a joy to know you have been selected and your work read.
So, onwards and onwards. These little glimmers of positivity, of hope in a lonely profession, are gladly welcomed. Now, I need to enter some more competitions and re-submit my fairy story. You never know, it might one day win FIRST PRIZE.
